Occupation maritime Historian, Cruise Reviewer
Biography I commenced in the passenger shipping industry in May 1960 and started with Russell and Somers Ltd, GSA’s for Royal Dutch Mails, being Royal Rotterdam Lloyd, the Netherland Line and Holland America Line. I then moved to the Union Steamship Company, both jobs being in Wellington New Zealand. I then moved to Australia where I later became assistant manager for Chandris Lines and another line, the in the 70’s I was fully involved with the operation of the Australian Cruise Line “Celebrity Cruises, the name that was taken by my old boss Mr Chandris, who had plans for a 5 Star deluxe cruise company, which came to a reality! But sadly after his death his two sons who did not have a heart for passenger shipping sold the cruise line to RCI. I am now retired and concentrated on writing on ssmaritime.com, and to date have covered some 435 classic passenger liners, be they the great or lesser known ones, as well as the famed MV Doulos built two years after the RMS Titanic, as the SS Medina. Yet she is still afloat and fully operational, but now based in Singapore. See ssmaritime.net. My other love is obviously cruise ships and having now sailed on over 125 voyages/cruises since3 1958, I cover all the current ships, especially those that call Australia and New Zealand home, but also those that sail around the world!
